Maybe there is a atmospheric anomaly the last two days that is giving me grief in getting a connection to the Internet. So it looks like I may not be blogging as much as I was until I can find out what is going on with the connection problems. Luckily we haven't really been up to much.
We collected our satellite phone, but don't get too excited, as we have yet to purchase the plan. Which means we don't have a number yet, if we leave it for a couple of weeks it means we get a better expiry date on the prepaid minutes. However I did find out that we do not get charged when someone calls us, bad news is....that you better check with your service provider ie: Telstra or Optus to see how much they charge you to call us per minute. When we get the plan and the number we will email everyone with the details
Went to COSTCO on Sunday and it was amazing the place is HUGE. You can buy everything from Plasma TV's to seafood, grand piano's furniture, clothes, computers, bakery items, pre-made salads, hot chickens and bulk buy groceries. I didn't get the Grand Piano, however I did spend another $380 on provisions. The lockers are starting to look like a cruising boat's lockers now. And I would say a few little top up shops and we are set to go.
Geoff has collected the batteries today's and will spend most of the day installing the monsters. Our rigging hasn't turned up yet but again we are happy in our lovely Marina berth. The weather is staying fab and today I think the temp is due to hit around 22 degrees, the nights however remain pretty cold around 6 degrees. Skies are blue, clear and fogless. Our Australian registration documents have been sent off to Australia and now we just have to wait for the certificate stating that Sea Otter 2 is an Australian registered vessel. Insurance cover has also finally come through and it will cost us $3000 approx to insurance us for a year and that does not cover us in the dangerous areas that are known for problems. However we are covered for most else. So it's a better feeling here in the land of litigation.
We have rented another car from a local Alameda Rental company and it is more convenient to collect and drop off. It is one of those rent a wreck deals, we are paying about $35 a day for 5 days and it will allow us to collect the heavy items that we are now buying. It's a Nissan something.....we have never heard of it before?
So that's about it for today, when and if I can reconnect on the boat I will post some more photos and blog daily again.
